How does a renovation typically take?
Before scheduling your renovation, our team will order the hand-selected products chosen during your Selections. We are committed to working with only the highest quality products and building service to ensure perfection in your project.
Custom fabrication of items that require site measure of a partially completed project will often add to the completion time of a project. Examples include stone, porcelain benchtops, toughened glass splashbacks, and custom shower screens.
Please discuss the likely duration of your project with your consultant. Kitchens are custom-made, delivered to the site, and then installed by our cabinetmakers, whereas bathrooms are mostly built in situ.
How much does a new bathroom or kitchen cost?
Costs can vary immensely as every project is unique. Your Interior Designer will discuss this with you early in the process, costs depend on several factors, such as: Whether the footprint of the room is being changed, Specifications of the work that is required, if any structural work is required, Size of the room(s) Quality and cost of fixtures, fittings, and finishes.
A typical bathroom renovation costs between $35,000 and $60,000.
The typical kitchen renovation costs between $50,000 and $70,000 without appliances.
Laundries are typically between $25,000 and $40,000.
Can you work to my budget?
If you have a preconceived idea of investment and return, let’s discuss it.
We believe it’s important both parties are open and honest about expectations and can give you an estimated idea of cost after discussing your project. This becomes more accurate as we establish the design and products selected.
What happens if I discover a fault or have a warranty claim?
By Urban work very closely with brands that we take great pride in. We have an online warranty form that can be filled in and will look after the rest.
Even the best manufacturers and products will occasionally have issues that lead to warranty claims.
For products bought directly with By Urban, we will do all the follow-up work to ensure any issues are dealt with promptly and professionally. Likewise, in the unlikely event that any workmanship is found to be faulty, we will take charge of the situation and ensure the problem is fixed with minimum fuss.
We take great pride in this part of our service.
What insurance do you have in place?
We carry Public Liability and Products Liability insurances that cover all our operations and Contract Works Insurance that covers all work we carry out. Professional Indemnity insurance covers all design and advice provided. Our staff members are covered by our insurance as well as Workcover and other protections as required by law.
Our sub-contractors are required to have (and provide proof of) their insurance. We will not leave you or our workers exposed to liabilities.
We prefer peace of mind for all.
What security measures do you have in place?
Your Building Supervisor will discuss access and security with you at check measure.
We use uniquely coded lock boxes for the safe on-site storage of keys. Our operation manager and the relevant trades will know the location and code.
I think my home may have asbestos, how do I find out, and do you remove it?
Many homes built before ~1985 will have asbestos. We will discuss the likelihood of asbestos with you as we assess your project and arrange for testing as needed.
Any asbestos needs to be professionally removed by licenced specialists. We will handle all removal procedures for you under legal requirements.

How do I get my project started?

What is the lead time to start my project?
Once you choose to proceed with By Urban after your proposal preparation and design have been outlined in our showroom, we will take the time to discuss every detail with you, ensuring you have a complete understanding of your project.
Upon acceptance of your proposal and deposit, your dream turns into reality. Not only will our Designers guide you through our step-by-step process, but you will also be introduced to your Project Manager, who will keep you well-informed at every stage.
A start date will be discussed depending on the products selected and the scope of work. Our operations Manager will communicate a start date and provide you with frequent updates throughout the construction process with our exclusive trade team. We pride ourselves on our transparency, therefore from the conception to completion of your renovation, you will be communicated with daily.
Do I need to pay a deposit for my renovation?
By Urban requires an acceptance of proposal of $1000 for a bathroom renovation. Acceptance of proposal requires the contract price for a kitchen or laundry at the time of acceptance.
Progress payments will be advised as per your stated contract.
How do I choose fixtures, fittings, tiles & accessories?
By Urban has a long-standing relationship with top Australian brands. We have well-known brands like Caroma, Phoenix, and Italia Ceramics to name a few. Our boutique showroom in Glenunga showcases the very latest in trends for you to come in and browse in person if you like.
What is your warranty for renovations?
BY URBAN PROVIDE A 5 YEAR LIMITED WARRANTY.
By Urban will guarantee workmanship for a period of 5 years from the date of completion. Concerning all materials supplied the customer will rely upon the warranty given by any manufacturer of such materials.
For this reason, we only and people use contractors and suppliers we trust to perform over time. You can relax knowing that our work will outlast our Warranty.
Fixtures and fittings are covered by manufacturers’ warranties which generally range from 1-30 years, depending on the product and supplier. Some items have a lifetime warranty. Please check the warranties on individual brands and items when making your product selections. Keep in mind that the warranty is only as good as the company behind it.
What license does By Urban have?
An appropriate Builders Licence is required to carry out any building work in South Australia. The licences are specific and restricted.
Construction By Urban Trading as By Urban is fully licensed. Our Licence number is BLD:201 309.
Who does the work within my home?
By Urban has a team of skilled and trusted trades that will expertly complete your project. Some are direct employees, while most are regular sub-contractors. All contractors have been carefully chosen and are required to have current licenses.
Our trades have been carefully selected to work in your home. They respect your home like they would their own and have proven themselves to be able to deliver to our high standards consistently. The majority have been working for us for several years.
By Urban takes responsibility for all our workers, whether employees or contractors.
What is the communication schedule for my renovation?
At By Urban, we pride ourselves on our communication with you. We treat your renovation as if it were our own, once you begin a renovation project with By Urban you become one of the family.
